This weekend we’re…blogging and surfing

Friday, January 8th, 2010 |

I’ve been taking some time out recently over the holidays so with the new year its time to knuckle down and get some work done! I love surfing and finding new sites to inspire me, and heres a list of some of my favourites which I regularly check for new, inspiring work and cutting edge design.

Etsy – a worldwide craft portal putting you in touch with millions of sellers, making handmade items including art, furniture, jewellery, homeware and clothing. A creative hub of craftyness.
Ffffound - a fanatstically addictive site that posts up photography and images found and loved by people all over the world. Updates constantly and you can even have it as your screen saver so its shows new images every few seconds. Beware – you can lose hours looking at this site.
Print & Pattern – a blog with everything new in the world of print and pattern. Who knew there were so many lovely patterns out there.
Design Work Life – designworklife is a part of Seamless Creative, a New York City-based design studio. Updated daily, dwl was established to catalog and share design-centric inspiration.
Creativadoration – a blog and links to hundreds of designery types. Great for finding companies you never knew
Belle and Boo - ok, so Mandy’s a friend of mine but I love her blog as a sneaky snapshot into her life. Great inspirational photos and all the goings on behind the scenes of Belle and Boo.
Design Sponge - I think everyone knows about design sponge, but its still a great place for finding new talent, craft ideas, and seeing whats new in the design world.

This weekend we’re…

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010 |

Starting a new detox regime, recycling our bottles from New Years Eve, filling out our 2010 diary, and visiting family in Derbyshire. Heres some pics from last New Year when we stayed with friends in the Peak District. It was so cold and frosty, we even had to break the ice for their chickens. It was great cuddling up next to the fire though as we pondered our new years resolutions (which we always break by February). This year’ resolution – to bring Papertastic to the masses!

Happy New Year

Thursday, December 31st, 2009 |

Happy New Year Papertastic People! Since we’ve only just launched Papertastic at the beginning of December we’re very excited to see what 2010 brings. The last month has seen a focus on all things Christmassy, but in the coming months we hope to let you know about more stunning work from independent designers working in the UK and launch the papertastic shop where you can buy the pieces. We’re looking forward to Valentines Day, Spring inspired gifts, the wedding season, party pieces, birthdays and cards for every occassion… and then it will be Christmas again!

Happy Christmas

Thursday, December 24th, 2009 |

This weekend its pretty obvious what we’ll be doing – eating too much, arguing with brothers and sisters, and trying to look pleased when opening yet another pair of socks. Merry Christmas to everyone out there in blog land! I hope you all have a wonderful day, whether with friends or family or celebrating alone. I think someone once said that Christmas isn’t a single day, but a state of mind – and I hope to keep all those Chrsitmassy feelings of good will and festive spirit well into next year after the last of the turkey has been finally eaten. And don’t worry, we’re just taking a few days off – we’ll be back after Boxing day with tips on using old wrapping paper and writing those all important thankyou cards.

This weekend we’re…

Saturday, December 19th, 2009 |

Putting up our christmas tree. I love this tradition, it gets me all christmassy, topped with baking mince pies, drinking mulled wine and watching my favourite Chrsitmas DVDs (Scrooged, Love Actually, and Its a Wonderful Life). This is our tree last year – we always go to the local village shop who sells real trees, and decorate with some treasures we’ve collected over the years, including some beautiful glass baubles, handmade and blown by a glass-maker friend of ours. Its great in the evening when the twinkly lights come on and we always miss it when it coms down in January. Until then, this is the official start of Chrsitmas for us!

This weekend we’re…

Saturday, December 12th, 2009 |

Frantically christmas shopping, writing christmas cards, trying to think of gift ideas for ourselves (if Santa can’t come up with anything) and stocking the drinks cabinet for yuletide drinks (and probably drinking some of it – one glass of sherry is never enough!). Also I’m going to try and drag the husband to see “Where the Wild Things are” under the premise it was directed “by that same bloke who did Being John Malkovich”.

Papertastic blog

Friday, November 27th, 2009 |

And its live… the new Papertastic store is open for business. Well, actually the shop isn’t at the moment, but thats Stage 2. Stage 1 is this – the blog, where we get to share our inspirations, what we love, what we hate, what we think, what we’ve been doing, and what’s new in the Papertastic world.
“So what is Papertastic?” I here you ask (figuratively speaking since this is the web, and you’re hopefully just reading this and not talking aloud to your laptop.) Like the name says, its all about paper, and the wonderful things that designers and artists are doing with it. Since we live in Devon, England, we’ll  be championing English designers and makers but will be searching worldwide for new trends and inspirational work that make us go weak at the knees. That’s stationery, cards, notebooks, gift wrap, invitations, party decorations, calendars, art prints – basically lovely things on paper.

“And who are the people behind this fabulous new store?” you wonder (you really must stop speaking aloud now, people are beginning to stare). Well, I’m Wendy Harrison, designer and creator of Scissor Paper Stone Wedding Stationers and Letterfest, an online boutique selling personalised handmade gifts and home decor. And the guy sitting next to me is Bob Harrison, internet big wig, designer, collector and No 1 Man (in my life anyway). It’s been my dream ever since I was a little girl to open a stationery store and whenever we go shopping and I see a stationery boutique, I’m in like a shot feeling the papers, lusting after cards and notebooks, and generally embarassing myself. So this is the answer – an online store specializing in paper goods, including stationery and art, designed both by ourselves and our favourite designers and artists within the UK. Its an excuse for me to do alot of shopping, sourcing new work from designers and finding new trends and products in the stationery world. I hope it will be inspiring, entertaining and at the very least, help some local artists promote their work. And this poster from Southampton designers Champignons I think sums it up!
